Silver Tarnishing
Both sterling silver and silver plated items are subject to tarnishing when exposed to a variety of environmental conditions, including natural skin oils, perspiration, salty air, fragrances, cosmetics and hand sanitiser.
Occasional polishing with a soft silver cloth and proprietary cleaning product will buff out tarnishing.
Nobody knows our products like our Partners do so if you have any further questions about your item you can use the ‘Ask Seller’ button on the relevant product page, or the ‘Contact Seller’ button via your order enquiry, for additional care recommendations. As oxidisation is a natural occurrence, tarnishing is excluded from our returns policy.
General Silver care recommendations:
- Know your item - is it sterling or plated?
- Dry silver is healthy silver - to prevent tarnishing or dull-looking silver, avoid coming into contact with liquids, including the following: showers, swimming pools & hot tubs, the sea.
- Store it safe and sound - tarnishing can also occur from air exposure therefore it’s recommended that jewellery is stored individually, in air tight bags with anti-tarnish properties.
- Give it some TLP - as silver is delicate it is recommended that it is carefully polished with a microfiber cloth or special jewellery cloth.
What’s the difference between sterling silver and silver plated?
Silver plated items are made primarily of other metals and are coated in a layer of silver.
Sterling silver items will have a hallmark however items that fall under specified weight thresholds may not be etched with a hallmark. Please contact our Partner for further information about your item.
